June 14, 2008 MY NEW VERTICAL PIPE GROWER PROJECT |
This project started out with the intention of using a potting mix inside a tube. Now however, there will not be any potting soil used. The plants will receive nutrients from a sprayer inside the tube. A pond pump is being used to cycle the nutrients. |
So the first thing is to get the seeds going and when they are all sprouted, I'm get the pole planted and the tube attached in place. One of the things to work out is how to attach the tube. I am thinking about using duct tape every foot. That should be plenty of support. Maybe something better will come to mind by time the seedlings are ready |
Sunday, June 15, I got the seeds into the trays today. Hopefully they will pop up in a few days or so. |
I wasn't too happy with the way it looked after it was finished, but I attached the aluminum duct at the top with a couple staples into the 2X4, and then followed up wth the aluminum duct tape around the top area. Then, I pulled down on the tube expanding it right down to ground level. Then I added more tape bands to secure the tube in place. |
There are a lot of different aluminum tape brands to choose from, but I got the only one that said it was waterproof. |
The aluminum duct tube comes compressed down to about 3 foot. |
JUNE 29, 2008. Sadly I must report that there are too many problems with this grower to continue. If PVC pipe and a stronger pump were used, I think that the project would have done a lot better. chuck I have replaced this project with a new horazontal trough system click here |
